Organizes the election and running of the Physics Graduate Student Council (PGSC), including a quarterly meeting of all PGSC members and disseminating the meeting minutes to the graduate student body.
1XX Committee Representative:
Graduate member of the 1XX Committee, participates in the discussion and planning of the undergraduate introductory physics courses.
Graduate Recruitment Committee Representative:
Graduate member of the Graduate Recruitment/Admissions Committee. Works with the committee to determine new applicant admission into the department, and the enrollment of admitted students.
Organizes the thrice-yearly graduate-invited colloquia. Conducts the graduate student voting to determine which speakers to invite, extends invitations to chosen speakers, and coordinates colloquium activities including the talk and a follow-up dinner with the speaker.
Diversity Committee Representatives:
Graduate members of the diversity committee, in charge of guiding department policy on diversity issues and organizing diversity-oriented events.
Responsible for putting on “Friday Flings”--Friday afternoon events gathering the entire department to relax and socialize with food and drinks.
Examination Committee Representative:
Graduate member of the examination committee which drafts and administers the Masters Review Exams for the core graduate curriculum. The student representative ensures exam fairness and represents student interests in the design of the MRE.
Graduate Committee Representatives:
Graduate members of the graduate committee, which discusses and determines department policy concerning the graduate program. Student members communicate graduate student concerns and represents student interests in the running of the graduate program.
Organizes and facilitates panel discussions on issues of general interest to the graduate student body.
Student Technology Fund Representative:
Drafts applications to the Student Technology Fund for new equipment beneficial to the department and the graduate student body.
Sits in as a (silent) participant during the monthly faculty meetings and reports back interesting topics to the graduate student body.
Graduate and Professional Student Senators:
Members of the campus-wide graduate and professional student senate. Represent physics interests the senate as it discusses issues relevant to the entire UW graduate student body, and reports back important topics to the physics graduate students.
